Last summer, Nora stayed at her uncle’s farm, where he bred horses. Every morning, she fed the horses and swept the stable. She also kept a notebook with the name of every horse.

One night, Nora slept badly because of strange noises outside. Through the window, she saw a man who crept across the yard. He misled the guard dog by throwing a piece of meat far away. Then he tried to open the stable door, but he cut his hand on a nail, and it bled a lot.

Nora ran to wake her uncle. When the man heard them, he fled to an old truck and sped down the road.

Afterward, Nora wept because she was scared. Her uncle led her to the kitchen and made her a cup of hot chocolate.
