Every morning, Henry woke up at five o’clock. He helped his father with the cows and the chickens. He didn’t take a bus to school; he walked three miles every day. The schoolhouse was small, and there was only one teacher for all the children. In the winter, the classroom was very cold, but the teacher started a fire in the fireplace. Henry didn’t have many toys, but he played outside with his dog. He was a happy child because his life was simple and peaceful.
